I got this book out the library for research into this period in time and I am really impressed with it. There aren’t many books about the Iron Age, but some of the ones on Amazon are about £160!! This one is an affordable £9.99 and basically tells you all you need to know if you have an interest or are doing a school project. Many of the other books of this period are written by historians who get so wrapped up in their own opinions and theories about the lifestyles of these people who lived so long ago, they forget to look at the evidence.
According to the blurb, Simon James and Valery Rigby work at the British Museum, and obviously know their subject, while writing in clear English for all to understand. All their information is backed up by archaeological evidence and we’re told exactly which excavation it came from. When they make theories, we’re told the reasons why, and not simply told this is fact, like other writers (and television presenters) do.
The book is also well presented with diagrams and photos on every page so we’re not faced with boring text and we get more of a feel for the age. It has definitely helped me out and I recommend it highly.
