Well I had to watch this didn’t I. I watched Bowling for Columbine and I was shocked by it, and I was expecting to be shocked by this film too. But I wasn’t really – probably because the war was heavily covered by the media already, much of it was already known. The most interesting thing was Bush’s business connections and how much that influenced the running of America. The investigation into that was more compelling than the second half of the film.
Some of it was unnecessary – I felt a lot of time was wasted with things like the OAP who had FBI on his doorstep for talking about the war. (Interesting, yes, but not that important) The sort of things that would go on the Extras on a dvd, but not in the actual film.
The coverage of the soldiers serving in Iraq and the grieving family who lost a son made me angry and sad; but again, nothing I didn’t understand already. However this film is likely to be watched by those in power in America, and if they had chosen to ignore scenes like those in the past, it would hopefully get their attention with this.
It showed most profoundly what a complete idiot President George W Bush is, and it really makes you wonder why anyone at all in America could choose to vote for him again.
