When I Grow Up

Distant Shores

Image to come

On Wednesdays ITV1 at 9pm Starring Peter Davison, Samantha Bond, Tristan Gemill

I’ve been watching this for the past few weeks and thought I’d better do a review before it finishes! Anyway, right at the beginning a very busy, wealthy plastic surgeon was basically blackmailed into leaving his job and his life to become a GP on a remote island. (somewhere near Scotland I’m guessing). His wife got a job there and told him she’d divorce him if he didn’t come too. So off he went, being very grumpy, but each week does something out of the goodness of his heart to help the tiny population there. (Yes I had noticed the similarities with Doc Martin starring Martin Clunes).
There’s also stuff going on with their teenage daughter and young son who has an imaginary Dad to make up for the lack of attention from his own. And there’s also the problem of the near-affair the Mum’s having with her new boss.
It’s not particularly funny and it’s not particularly dramatic, but it’s really nice to watch in the evening and I like it. I suppose it’s turning into a less brash kind of soap in a way!
