Playing On The Friday Night Project, 10pm Channel 4 on 4th February
I was totally astounded when I heard Fightstar play live on last night! I was expecting them to be ok, but the radio would say they were rubbish anyway. But in actual fact; they were utterly utterly crap. Charlie proved that his voice isn’t powerful enough without the help of two other guys singing at the same time; the backing singer guy proved that he could sing totally flat; and the band altogether proved that they cannot write a song. For their launch song, you’d think they’d make it good wouldn’t you? Perhaps even the best song on the album; so if this is the standard to expect, I’m really not going to bother listening out for any more. The only thing that might rescue them is if they stop singing live. Perhaps the actual single recorded in the studio and fiddled with cleverly, sounds better; but I wouldn’t know as I am yet to hear it on the radio.
I’m sorry Charlie, but you should’ve stuck with Busted. I get the feeling that Charlie wanted to be a lot cooler than Busted, but he should’ve looked at his industry. By the time Take That split up they were definitely credible, and bordering on cool; and with the advantage that Busted were an original type of band, I think they would’ve hit that ‘cool status’ quite quickly. It really is a shame that he didn’t stick at it.
