loads of people!
I decided not to do a big acknowledgement page at the front of Be In The Place; the mention about John Peel seemed appropriate by itself. However, there are some people I’d like to thank (hoping this doesn’t sound too much like a big-headed acceptance speech!): Chris, my husband, for pretending to listen when I talk out loud about the plot and for actually offering good advice when I turn off the telly in the middle of something and say, “Do you think Laura should do this? Or that?” Rain and Jude, my beautiful children for kindly amusing themselves during the summer holidays when Andersen press asked to see the full book, and me suddenly realising I needed to improve it again with another edit; and also for being gorgeously proud of me and telling all their friends that their Mummy’s a new author. E-festivals.co.uk for allowing me to talk about Glastonbury all year round and eavesdrop on everyone else’s conversations on the message board. Alan Dearling for providing me with a wealth of ‘new traveller’ information; and Greg Martin for taking his time to help me and sending me his essays on the subject. Of course, Michael Eavis and his team for putting on the best event in the world and giving me chance to experience an amazing holiday nearly every year. I couldn’t ask for a better place to set my first novel.
I’d also like to say thank you to everyone for buying my book. (Ok, this really is starting to sound cheesy now!) Not just the people who are interested in it, but the people who don’t really need to buy it – the people in my husband’s office, the Mums I see in the playground, my kid’s teachers, friends and family; those who have congratulated me and wished me luck with it. Your support has overwhelmed me and I am very grateful for it. Thank you.
