Chysauster

The remains of an iron age village near Penzance in Cornwall

This place is owned by English Heritage and costs £2.80 ish (if I can remember rightly) to get in. But it’s well worth it if you’re interested in ancient history. The remains clearly show the walls of round houses including all the little storage chambers and rooms. It was a fascinating place to visit; though a shame the fogou hasn’t been made safe to go inside. It’s a massive site and has excellent preservation, though it has been restored in places. You may not expect it, but it’s actually a great place for kids. Mine, who were 6 and 9 when we went, loved exploring all the houses and it would be perfect for a good game of hide and seek. There are clean loos in the car park and it’s about half a mile walk up a slope from there. It could be tricky with a pram, and I’d very very sorry for the pusher for wheelchair users.
