I watched this film half way through and didn’t bother with the rest. There are many many critisisms a proper film critic could make (such as the awful cinematogrpahy) but to you and me, the main problem with it is it just plain Boring.
I never quite knew where the plot was going. The opening scenes were all about surfing and being nasty to the people who weren’t locals; so I thought it might be a story about that. The next minute there was a plot about some boys chosen for a skating team and oen kids was left out, so I thought the sotry might be about the outcast proving himself to get accepted; but that happened straight away. There was a vague story about his Mum being a bit weird and his Dad leaving, but it wasn’t a very interesting one. Then there was a huge bit of these kids skating round other people’s empty swimming pools.
Despite my interest in skating and surfing, this film was far too disorganised to keep my attention and I wouldn’t bother with it if I were you. I didn’t see the plot going anywhere and the characters weren’t interesting enough either.
Also, the promise of Heath Ledger is a false one, dispite his lengthy appearence in the trailers. Unless he has a huge part in the second half, in which case, I aplogise, but so far we saw him for about 40 seconds surfing right at the beginning.
I was very disappointed.
