When I Grow Up

Bones

Sorry it’s been a while. Here’s my review of Bones, a sort-of detective series from America. On Sky One on Thursdays 10pm Starring Emily Dechanel, David Boreanaz (from Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Michaela Conlin, Eric Millegan, TJ Thyne and Jonathan Adams.

Of all the American TV shows trying to fill the shoes of X-Files (Lost and Invasion come to mind), I think Bones is the best. (brought to us by 20th century Fox television). Although it doesn’t involve anything spooky or supernatural, it does feature a female scientist and good-looking male FBI agent made to work together; each having their own techniques to solving crimes. Sound familiar?
I’m really loving it actually – more and more each week. It’s been going while now, but bound to be repeated, so look out for it beginning again soon. I have to admit you do have to get past the, what I can only describe as ‘American-ness’ of this series. There are several corny moments, and predictable happy endings, and this is at its worst in the first few episodes. What gets you through though, is the fantastic story lines each week.
It’s really a murder mystery for each hour long episode, as ‘Bones’, Dr Temperence Brennan is a highly skilled forensic anthropologist working with a brilliant team of scientists at the Jeffersonian Institution, gets drafted in by the FBI to help solve murders of usually unrecognisable victims. She of course reluctantly has to work with Special Agent Seeley Booth and the inevitable friendship and occasional sexual chemistry develops throughout the series. The other interesting characters who work in the team act as perfect back-up.
I really recommend giving this program a good go.
