When I Grow Up

Burke and Hare

The film based on a true story, set in 19th Century Edinburgh starring Simon Pegg, Isla Fisher, Andy serkis and many more…

This film had all the ingredients for a brilliant film: a great cast including many cameo roles played by actors such as Christopher Lee, Jenny Agutter and Stephen Merchant. The setting and Victorian costumes were great to look at and the plot itself, based around the medical profession’s demand for dead bodies to study, was a really good one. The sub-plot with the pretty Ginny trying to put together the first all-female cast of MacBeth, was funny and entertaining. The script was witty and the acting good.

However, there was something lacking. I think it must have been the pace just being wrong; perhaps a bit slow because I just got bored. It’s a real shame and it’s difficult to see a clear reason, but it didn’t make it as a good film – probably why I never noticed it at the cinema despite what must have been a high budget film to make. Disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it at all.
