This area is huge! It’s bigger than most High-Streets, so if you want a good look around, allow plenty of of time. Whilst hanging around for Cirque du Soleil, we realised we could get into Disney-Quest with our 14 day ticket…
I hadn’t seen Chris look so happy for a long time! Of course, the first game we went on was a Star Wars one. I should explain that Disney-Quest is a massive arcade game building with about 5 stories! It’s huge! We first went in on a Thursday evening, but didn’t have long, and then went back on Friday evening. Friday was really crowded, and you had to wait for all the good games, so I’d advise going mid-week. There are games for kids, classic space invaders type games, then there are high-tech car simulators – which we didn’t get to go on though Chris queued for half an hour. There are large-scale group games and all kinds of things. The best family one is the Pirates of the Caribbean where you’re on a pretend ship and you work together to shoot at other pirate ships to collect their treasure and one person in the group has to steer. That was good fun and I wish we’d done it again! There’s also a paddle boat one where you sit in a boat and then an inflatable river inflates around you and rocks the boat around. That was fun, but ultimately a crap game because the story told to us on the screen didn’t make sense and it didn’t seem to matter which way we steered, so it was disappointing in the end. I tried out a weird Aladin one with the kids, where you wear helmets so you can see the other people in your group in the game as well. Good idea, but again, the story of the game didn’t make sense and it seemed pointless and ended suddenly without telling you whether you achieved your quest or not. Also they sprayed the inside of the helmets with some hygiene spray which stank! Arcade games aren’t really my thing, so on Friday, I left the rest of the family to it, while I strolled up the rest of Downtown Disney. It’s basically a load of restaurants, a few nightclubs and a few over-priced touristy shops. I found nothing I wanted to buy at all. There was a massive Disney Store at the end, which you could easily lose your kids in if you want to. It had everything except the Pirates of the Caribbean stuff – which was what I wanted to look at again – typical! Tonnes and tonnes of kids costumes though – and that’s where you go if you want to pay a fortune to have a Disney Princess makeover. To be honest, if it wasn’t for the fact that Chris loved Disney Quest, and the kids enjoyed it too; I’d have missed out the whole area; it didn’t seem worth going to any trouble to go to to me.
