Kilver Court Christmas, Shepton Mallet, Somerset

There is one thing that I have really missed since moving from Tonbridge (apart from family of course) and that’s a decent place to visit that sells nice Christmas decorations! We used to go to all the nearby garden centres and they’d have masses of Christmas delights to tempt me, but here in the centre of Somerset, there really isn’t a lot to choose from apart from B&Q and B&Ms. So when I saw that Kilver Court were doing a Christmas evening last Thursday, along with mulled wine, mince pies and carol singing, I had to go! ….

The delights of the Avalon Faery Fayre in Glastonbury

It’s that time of year again! On a  spring and autumn weekend, Glastonbury Town Hall is host to one of the most creative and inspiring shopping experiences I ever go to! The term ‘craft fair’ doesn’t quite do it justice, even though most (if not all) of the items for sale are hand-crafted by the stall owner, they are of exceptional quality and never the sort of thing you can find on your usual High Street….

Independent Fashion Focus – an alternative to Bristol Fashion Week

Every single thing I go to lately seems to have the advertised start time about three-quarters of an hour before it actually starts. It’s as if they know I’m coming and in anticipation of my lateness, give the wrong time. The problem is, I have been dead on time for a change! So; not having the courage to speak to strangers already chatting to each other, after spending as long as I politely could browsing the clothes rails at To The Moon, I walked up and down the road for while and moved my car to a less dodgy parking space until the first person was due to speak, according to the piece of paper sellotaped to the wall. I perched on a stool at the back of the room with my notebook at the ready, interested to hear what they had to say about ethical and sustainable fashion….

Vintage shopping at the Cheese & Grain in Frome, Somerset

Yes, I know I have already written about this fair last year, but it’s such a good one, that I think it deserves

another! There were several new stalls this time, and as is the nature of vintage items, the stock on the

regular stalls is always changing anyway so you’re guaranteed a plethora of different stuff to rummage in. In fact I was even more impressed this time around with the the quality of items on offer here and really would recommend this vintage fair if you’re in the area. I also took some lovely photos of some of the stalls, which I’m dying to share with you….

Vintage clothing kilo sale in Bristol

Both my daughters and I are interested in vintage fashion, so whenever an event related to it comes up, I take the opportunity for a Mother/Daughter bonding day out! This was an event Rain had heard about, and when we approached the Paintworks building, we knew we must be in the right place due to the hoards of students with their clear bags of clothing. It’s basically a vintage clothing sale where you pay £15 per kilogram…

Vintage Fair, Wells + tips for vintage clothing sellers

Conveniently situated right next to a car park, so you can carry your vintage haul easily back to the car before looking round the shops in Wells High Street! It’s a small vintage fair organised by Vintage Somerset (A great website by the way, full of vintage shopping info), and takes place in Seager Hall on Union Street. My daughters and I visited on Saturday, but I think it’s on at other times in the year too. It’s a cute little fair – to be honest, too small for my liking. I do like to go to a vintage fair knowing I’ll definitely come away with something, but with only about twelve stalls, your chances are fairly limited with this one. And I wasn’t impressed with the £1 entrance fee, given the size….

The Vintage Bazaar at the Cheese & Grain in Frome, Somerset

This was a couple of weeks ago now, but what with Easter and bank holidays, time seems to be passing double quick. So anyway, my daughter and her friend were interested and off we went on a sunny Saturday morning to Frome. (Quick car park tip: there was a queue to get in because no-one realised there were several spaces to the right on the exit road. We nipped in on the right (there weren’t one way signs) and got a space straight away!) The entrance cost was £2 each, but the hall was big enough to justify this I suppose, and it was very busy, so people obviously didn’t mind paying the fee.

Kilver Court Wedding Fair, Shepton Mallet, Somerset

On Sunday my daughter and I went along to the wedding fair at Kilver Court to see what it was like. I’ve been long married, and my daughter hopefully has a few years yet, but we love all things to do with weddings! I also wanted to check out people’s stands as I’m thinking about taking Oshun wedding dresses, along with wedding related Wicked Faerie Gifts to wedding fairs next year. So I pretended I was organising my sister’s wedding for her, but if you’re planning visits to wedding fairs, this is what I thought of this one…
