When I Grow Up

Weekly Wardrobe – USA road trip

Well I last left you in Washington DC (having taken a train from New York) looking round all the wonderful museums and galleries, which, by the way are absolutely free to visit. Since then we hired a car and journeyed to Nashville, Memphis and now we’ve made it all the way down to New Orleans where the hotel we’re currently in seems to having working wifi (as long as not too many people play Pokemon Go at the same time). So here’s my weekly wardrobe post (just a day late) though I haven’t got much time so there aren’t any links I’m afraid….

These were taken at Foamhenge. It was meant to be a life-size replica of Stonehenge, but it wasn’t exactly accurate. And there was a giant statue of Merlin waving his arms to magic the stones into place! It sounds really cheesy, but actually it was a highlight of the trip so far as they were in such a beautiful setting with the last of the sunlight in the sky and mist coming over the wildflower meadows. We also saw fireflies for the first time. Quite magical!
Anyway, the pink dress I’m wearing I picked up for £5 on the Monday at Glastonbury Festival and it’s by hippy label Indo. The red sandals are from Clarks. Really chunky boots or high top Converse would’ve looked better, but I didn’t have the luggage allowance.

This is my ‘Country’ outfit as we were on our way to Nashville. We stopped at some amazing waterfalls (the name escapes me right now) so we paused on our walk to take some photos in the woods, but I’m sorry that these were a bit fuzzy in the shade and humid air. The white top I’m wearing came from Ali Express last year and the silk bloomers are from Rosa Bloom. If you hurry she has a few left in the sale.

I bought the top and shorts a couple of days before we left, so for once you can see an outfit that’s still in the shops! They are from New Look if you’re interested. I’m fussy when it comes to shorts and am glad there are more to choose from in the shops this year. These are cotton and are lined so aren’t see-through and are just the right length for me. They do, however ride up my inner thigh when walking anything quicker than snail’s pace, which is really annoying!
These pictures were taken at the beautiful Cheekwood Botanical Gardens in Nashville.

Unfortunately I’m not quite in focus for these photos, but I decided to keep them in because the hanging moss and living ferns on the Oak tree branches are so pretty! I think I’ve shown you this dress before as it is one of my favourites and a nice find in the Laura Ashley sale a couple of years ago. I’m not sure you can tell here, but the print is old-fashioned maps with sea-faring vessels pictured so I thought it was perfect to wear to New Orleans. This is at the Sculpture Garden.

I will be doing detailed accounts of everywhere I go on this holiday, so this won’t be the last you’ll be seeing of these places! I haven’t done much research on where to go for the next leg of the road trip; so please leave a comment if you have any recommendations on where to stop between New Orleans and Orlando. Thank you!
