When I Grow Up

Weekly Wardrobe – a vintage velvet dress

Fashion blog

It was the wonderful Glastonbury Frost Fayre on Saturday so I wanted to wear something a little bit Christmassy. A purple velvet dress fitted the bill, so that’s what I went with! I bought it from ebay a few years ago when I was invited to a friend’s 1940s party, and I thought this one looked like it matched the theme. The collar, length and style are very 1940’s, but it’s from C&A’s so it’s probably actually from the 1980s….

It wasn’t really a factor in my decision making, but with velvet being very fashionable at the moment, it was the ideal dress to choose for this season. However, the fact that it’s purple and it’s velvet, just makes it brilliant any year if you ask me!

The cardigan is my favourite and from Joe Browns a few years ago. I’m doing my best in these photos to cover up the hole that it’s sadly got on one side at the front!

The shoes are about twenty years old and were a Christmas present from Chris back in the days when he worked in London. They are Shelly’s and were from an alternative shoe shop in Carnaby Street which has sadly since gone. I apologise for the fact that they clearly need a clean and polish. I love the platform sole and the style is just very cool.

I love the large vintage-style buttons on the dress that really complete the 1940’s feeling to it.

You’ve probably seen the Kipling bag in a previous post. It was a second hand ebay buy, but Kipling bags are definitely now my favourite due to all the organisation pockets inside. I wish they did a better variety of colours and patterns though.

So that was my outfit for the day. I also filmed the Glastonbury Frost Fayre while I was there, so that will be cropping up in a You Tube video as part of Vlogmas next month. Also later in the evening I added my red coat, hat, scarf and gloves to the outfit to go to Christmas Wonderland at Westonbirt Arboretum. They’ll be a blog and video about that too!
