When I Grow Up

Styling a simple linen summer dress

There’s nothing I love more than throwing on a basic summer dress in warm weather. I’m good to go with very little else to worry about. However, if I’m going out somewhere and want to add a few accessories, then this is how I would style it up to make the complete outfit more interesting….

The brown linen dress is by Zanzea Collection, but is very much in the style of Made In Italy. I love that’s it’s so simple and easy, but has a dipped hem at the sides to give it a more unique style, and the pockets are brilliant!

A lightweight scarf is my accessory of choice during summer. It stops my shoulders getting sunburnt and also covers my upper arms, which I’m not always confident enough to have on show – particularly in this dress as the armholes are quite large and the slight flabby bulge above my bra at the sides shows otherwise! I bought this one at Glastonbury festival, and market stalls are often the best place to pick up this sort of thing. (See below to links for similar.)

The Art Company are my new favourite brand of shoes. They’re a bit on the pricey side, so I bought mine second hand from ebay. I love wearing them with chunky socks, and these are extra nice with the buttons on the side.

The doubled up wooden beaded necklace and the bracelet in the photo below were both bought separately amongst bundles of costume jewellery from ebay. Some of it I used for Threads of a Fairytale, but when I do this I’m usually tempted to keep a couple of things for myself! I thought the non-fancy style of the necklace suited the dress well, while the bracelet added a bit of prettiness.

Shop the look: (The first dress and the socks are the same; all the rest are similar.)
