When I Grow Up

Styling the summer holiday white dress (Or winter portrait photography dress-up!)

Floaty white dress worn by 30 plus fashion blogger

This fashion blog post is going to be divided into two halves. We took some photos for this on our Greece holiday last year in the blazing hot sun; and then we did another photo-shoot in January by an ice-covered lake in America with a cozy blanket thrown over my shoulders! Anyway, better suited for this time of year, here is the perfect summer holiday dress….

There is something so perfect about wearing a white dress with a backdrop of uninterrupted blue skies and Mediterranean architecture. These photos were at the ruins of an ancient town called Knossos in Crete. It was a very hot day and this dress was perfect. Of course, the white colour helps reflect the sun away, but also the style of the dress was loose and floaty, making it very comfortable in the heat.

I bought the dress from Amazon, and the label says, ‘Sakkas’. Judging from the reviews, it seems to be a trusted brand that customers come back to for more items, so I felt happy making this purchase. It is made from good quality, fairly heavy cotton, and is not particularly see-through (though I wouldn’t go so far as wearing black knickers underneath!). There’s also a pretty floral design embroidered at the neckline and in vertical rows over the front. The dress is also available in several colours. Although the embroidery is nice and subtle on the white dress; I thought some colours looked too ’90’s hippy for me! (If you get what I mean?!)

The little bow tied in the small of the back gives this dress a more flattering shape than without it, so I’m glad that little detail is there.

I accessorised the white dress with blue glass earrings and a silver bangle with blue beads. My sandals are definitely for comfort and aren’t particularly pretty, but when you’re on your feet exploring all day, for me that takes priority!

The rest of the photos are taken in New York state in January. When I grow up I might start dressing appropriately for the season! This was more of a fun photography project for Chris and me, rather than thinking of the blog, so I’ve accessorised the dress here with a great big fluffy blanket and cozy fur-lined boots!

Shop white summer dresses: (All are the same brand, but similar in style.)

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the same dress worn in completely contrasting seasons!
