Ahh what a lovely film this is! Definitely a young girl’s chick flick – I would feel sorry for any boy made to sit through this film! Anyway, it is a lovely, straightforward film, though a little predictable.
A geeky physics student chooses to study ice-skaters and their movements for a project and ends up learning to skate herself. Using her own formulas she learns quickly and enters some big competitions. Obviously she has to choose between a Harvard scholarship and ice-skating; and comes up against her feminist Mum. Oh and there’s a little bit of romance as well.
You certainly don’t have to be interested in ice-skating to like this film. I was actually surprised at the lack of musical montages of skating routines. There’s no amazing cinematography or fantastic script either, but it’s a nice Sleepover and ice-cream type film. And my 9 year old loved it as it felt like a teenage film because the characters were 17, but there was nothing in it at all that would make it unsuitable for that age.
