On Sunday my daughter and I went along to the wedding fair at Kilver Court to see what it was like. I’ve been long married, and my daughter hopefully has a few years yet, but we love all things to do with weddings! I also wanted to check out people’s stands as I’m thinking about taking Oshun wedding dresses, along with wedding related Wicked Faerie Gifts to wedding fairs next year. So I pretended I was organising my sister’s wedding for her, but if you’re planning visits to wedding fairs, this is what I thought of this one…
In fairness, I’ve never been to a wedding fair before, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I thought this was awful! Only bother going if you’re interested in Kilver court as a venue or if you’re local. I certainly don’t think it was worth travelling to simply because of the lack of number of stalls. I suppose there is a possibility that Kilver Court has an affiliation of some kind with the exhibitors and an agreement that no competition would be allowed at the fair. There was only one of everything and therefore very little choice. There was one wedding cake stand (Very nice cake and beautifully decorated, but £500 approx each); one wedding dress stand, one menswear stand; one venue styling stand; one wedding ring stall; one photographer and one company hiring out place settings. I really kept thinking we’d missed a hall or something, but no, that was it.
Like I mentioned, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re thinking of using the venue because it was a perfect opportunity to chat to the lady in charge of organising this; you could see the rooms available for the service and reception (the room upstairs has a stunning backdrop of the gardens) all dressed up for weddings and you could sample canapés by their caterer. The place is beautiful for weddings, but I’ve no idea of the cost – it isn’t printed in the brochure.
I can’t finish the review without recommending the lovely lady with the vintage style wedding dresses. She had a mix of genuine vintage dresses and also vintage style dresses she made herself, all at very reasonable prices. She had a lace dress made of lots of pieces of vintage lace sewn beautifully together for £3000 which I think is a good price considering the hours of work this must have taken, and her average priced handmade dresses are £1500.
