I still haven’t worked out what to do when I grow up! I’m mainly a writer, an artist, and a fairytale dressmaker with various crafty hobbies! Here (and on YouTube) I share bits of my life, thoughts, and what I’m learning along the way. Let’s find magic and inspiration; join me for this creative living adventure!

Weekly Wardrobe – Disney, Universal Studios & Somerset.

I’m sorry you’re getting several blog posts on top of each other – I’ve been catching up now that I’m back home, and hopefully back on track too. I’m aiming for Weekly Wardrobes on Mondays and each week, two other posts in between. So these are the last photos from my wonderful holiday, but hopefully not the last chance to wear my summer clothes! ….

The above picture was taken at the end of the day at Universal Studios in Florida. It was so crowded at the theme parks it was really difficult to get good outfit pictures, but we did our best! I’m wearing a grey vest from Primark last year, and the linen mix shorts are from New Look this year, so if you like them, you might find them now in the sale in the shop.

We only had one day at Disney, and the kids and I do like an opportunity to dress up a bit, so I went as Cinderella. Adults aren’t actually allowed to wear proper costumes into Disney World, so we do what’s called ‘Disney bounding’ and use ordinary clothes to emulate a Disney character. Last year I went as Ariel from the Little Mermaid, which was perfect as I had red hair then, but this time it was all blue as Cinderella. The blue vest is Primark and the skirt was from a little shop in Frome with the label Fenella. The tiara, which I’ve had for about twenty years and have no idea where it came from originally, finished off the look and I was pretty chuffed when I was actually recognised as the character! It looked even better when walking with the girls, who were clearly dressed as Snow White and Rapunzel.

We went a little later in the afternoon to Universal Studios, so I chose it as the time to wear my Hogwarts t-shirt. (In the heat of Florida, you wouldn’t believe the difference between wearing a vest and wearing a t-shirt!) This was from Primark last year, and the same shorts as earlier, from New Look. The afore-mentioned crowds were the reason why this is a cheesy holiday snap, but it was the only chance we had in Hogsmead. I like that we found a spot in front of a writing supplies shop!
I found the same t-shirt online, but in blue (Ravenclaw).

By the way, the bottle bag carrying my Glastonbury flask, which is essential for constant water re-fills needed at 39 degrees Celcius, is one I made, and available at Oshun Creations. The pocket belt is by Devi, and can be bought at Glastonbury Festival in the Avalon Field or the Devi shop in Glastonbury town.

The difficult lighting means you can’t see the colour of the vest properly, but it’s actually maroon – a little nod to Griffindor colours. I’m also wearing a Griffindor bow in my hair, which I bought at Hot Topic, but annoyingly forgot to photograph. Anyway, the vest once again is from Primark and the denim shorts were from New Look last year. My top is slightly wet here because I’d just chucked water on myself to try and cool down a bit!
These shorts are similar:

Here’s a little bit of theme park outfit advice: I wouldn’t recommend wearing denim shorts if you plan on doing any of the water rides! Luckily we’d done them all the visit before (in the linen shorts), but as I never completely dried out for the rest of the day in them, I would have had no chance in denim – and it would have been much more obvious which areas were the last to dry out too; which could basically look like you’ve had some kind of accident. Best avoided!

Here I am, back home and enjoying the Somerset countryside. Can you spot Glastonbury Tor in the background? I’m wearing the old pink top from New Look again. I’m putting it on as often as possible because I love it, but I think at the end of summer it’s going to be put on the ‘clothes to cut up for Oshun’ pile as it has a few small holes now as well as being bobbly 🙁
Also, I’m proving here that linen trousers do need to be ironed every day you wear them, not just the first! (Actually I’m not even sure I did on the first.) I do really like the dusky pink and taupe brown colour combination.
