The Long Way Round

Mondays at 9pm Sky One and 9:30pm on Sky Travel

Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman go round the world the long way round on motorbikes.

This is going to be great. Partly because I fancy Ewan McGregor, but partly because he’s also funny and witty and I enjoy watching travel programs. Him and his good mate and fellow actor, Charley Boorman (they met on the set of The Serpent’s Kiss) are travelling on two massive motorbikes the long way round the world to end up at New York. In the first episode, we saw them getting ready for the whole thing – practising on their bikes, planning their route (determined to go to all the ill-advised and dangerous places), expecting all the motorcycle type freebies, and saying goodbye to their families.
The strength of Ewan and Charlie’s friendship is already hugely apparent, and those to going anywhere together would already make good telly, just from their funny conversations. The one thing I wondered about, was if they’re on motorbikes, it’ll be difficult to talk to each other on the journey. Obviously they’ll be stopping places, but it’s not the same as chatting in a car, and would it be enough to make a successful documentary? But then I watched the clips for next week’s episode, which involved all kinds of problems, including being allowed into a country, having a massive road accident and having a gun pulled on them.
Fantastic telly – I can’t wait to watch the rest.

Cath Kidston gift ideas for Mothers’ Day
February 28, 2018
I was given this beautiful set of Cath Kidston hand creams and some beautiful Gift Baskets for Women for my birthday last year, and it occurred to me what a lovely gift anything by Cath Kidston would be for Mothering Sunday. Now, oddly enough, this gift also has been listed as one of the best gifts for tattoo artists, which quite left me flummoxed. Either way, her products combine the two things that make the perfect present – something pretty and something practical….

Looking for the perfect base – Review of Boots No 7 day cream; Rimmel mattifying primer & Bare Minerals matt powder foundation
October 12, 2017
I’m sure I could be psycho-analysed about this; but I cannot run out of something unless I’ve already bought the thing I’m going to use next – even if I know that’s not for some time! During our recent trip to America, I planned on buying a few products that I regularly use so that I have them all set to go when I ‘hit pan’ on my current ones! The first of these is the No7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream. I stood in my local Boots a couple of months ago and couldn’t bring myself to spend £25 on the next one, so I thought I’d wait until I could get it slightly cheaper across the pond. The second item was Maybelline mineral powder foundation, but as they didn’t have that any more, I was tempted into buying the Bare Minerals matte powder foundation instead. The primer was an impulse purchase as I was drawn in by the ‘mattifying’ bit on the label. Yes, there is a theme here. And yes, if a matte moisturising day cream existed, I would buy that too!….
Feather & Black in Bath, Somerset
Celebrating the new Feather & Black bedroom furniture shop in Bath, Somerset
June 15, 2018
Most of the shops were closing and only a few people milled around the beautiful Georgian streets of Bath as I walked up from the Southgate car park to Northumberland place, a little street to the right as you go up the hill of the main high street. The new premises of Feather and Black are beautiful and is one of those rare shops that haven’t completely hidden all the original architectural features of the building. I’ll be honest though, when I walked into the opening party, I didn’t notice them at first because I was too busy looking at the lovely furniture and accessories….
