Batman Begins

Directed by Christopher Nolan. Starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman

Now girls, don’t worry if your guy wants to take you to the cinema to see this film. I really didn’t think it would be any good, and even if it was, it would be a boy flick, but it wasn’t at all. It was actually a pretty intellectual version and definitely my favourite Batman film that I’ve seen.

Following a clear Good versus Evil theme, but making it seem current and futuristic at the same time, this action film kept my interest throughout and the action sequences weren’t too long to bore a girl!

It was a great cast; the effects were as good as I would expect them to be (that’s pretty good by the way) but the best thing about the film was its original story line. And it’s difficult to be original with Batman. I would go so far to say that this is one of the best films I’ve seen this year. Go and see it!

Exposing a fireplace and other renovating adventures
January 6, 2017
Some of you have been following the renovating side of this blog since we moved in eight and a half years ago; so I thought I’d do a quick update of a couple of the smaller jobs that we’ve done recently. The first clue that there was an old fireplace in our bedroom was the hearthstone that we found when lifting up the beige carpet to reveal the Georgian floorboards. The second clue was the obvious difference in sound when knocking on the wall. The third clue was the whacking great hole behind the plaster when we hit it with a hammer….

Looking for the perfect base – Review of Boots No 7 day cream; Rimmel mattifying primer & Bare Minerals matt powder foundation
October 12, 2017
I’m sure I could be psycho-analysed about this; but I cannot run out of something unless I’ve already bought the thing I’m going to use next – even if I know that’s not for some time! During our recent trip to America, I planned on buying a few products that I regularly use so that I have them all set to go when I ‘hit pan’ on my current ones! The first of these is the No7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream. I stood in my local Boots a couple of months ago and couldn’t bring myself to spend £25 on the next one, so I thought I’d wait until I could get it slightly cheaper across the pond. The second item was Maybelline mineral powder foundation, but as they didn’t have that any more, I was tempted into buying the Bare Minerals matte powder foundation instead. The primer was an impulse purchase as I was drawn in by the ‘mattifying’ bit on the label. Yes, there is a theme here. And yes, if a matte moisturising day cream existed, I would buy that too!….
