The walls are coming down!

Today the builders ascend on our house to knock down the kitchen and the dining room walls, and the staircase we don’t need. The beginnings of our new kitchen has begun!

We dithered and dithered about getting a loan in order for us to do this, and in the end we decided to go for it. We thought we could spend 5 years saving for the kitchen, and getting it then; or getting the kitchen now and enjoying it for the five years we pay off the loan! What swung it for me was the fact that you always see people on Grand Designs using credit cards to pay for the kitchen when their build money has run out. Other people do it, so why shouldn’t we?

So anyway, I’ve taken a few ‘Before’ pictures and I’ll update when there is more to see. Apparently it’s going to takep1010894 them two days just to prop up the ceilings.  I’ve been really busy over the last few days clearing out the kitchen and the dining room, and also getting my eldest daughter to tidy up her bedroom. Her wall is coming down with it, so she’ll end up with a bigger room as she’ll get the extra space where the stairs were. And for now she’s sleeping on a fold-out futon the in tiny narrow room surrounded with boxes for my clothing business. She said this morning she felt like Harry Potter, waking up in the cupboard under the stairs!

Feather & Black in Bath, Somerset
Celebrating the new Feather & Black bedroom furniture shop in Bath, Somerset
June 15, 2018
Most of the shops were closing and only a few people milled around the beautiful Georgian streets of Bath as I walked up from the Southgate car park to Northumberland place, a little street to the right as you go up the hill of the main high street. The new premises of Feather and Black are beautiful and is one of those rare shops that haven’t completely hidden all the original architectural features of the building. I’ll be honest though, when I walked into the opening party, I didn’t notice them at first because I was too busy looking at the lovely furniture and accessories….
Adagio teas
Tea for people who don’t like tea! (And for those who do.)
October 3, 2018
When Adagio Teas asked if I’d like to work with them, I had to be honest in my reply; that I don’t actually like tea. On my trips to America, this is like saying I’m not actually British, but my main disgruntle is that I couldn’t join in with all the beautiful Instagrams of cups of tea! I do, however like fruit infusions, and the mango flavoured tea I had at the Jane Austen Centre a couple of weeks ago was very nice, so I asked if I could try their flavoured tea….
living with hypothyroid disease
Living with hypothyroidism – blame, balance, and being kind to yourself
May 24, 2018
This week is Thyroid awareness week and the 25th of May is World Thyroid Day. It feels like every day of the week and every week of the year is National or International awareness day for something or other. Well, this is mine. I hope we don’t get too weary of these sorts of days and weeks that we become indifferent about them. Anyway, I wrote more about my Hypothyroid disease story on a post a few years ago if you’d like a read of that first; and please scroll down to watch the video I made about it as well…
