I’m pretty sure back in the day, we called them Ra-ra skirts, but to be honest, I was never fashionable enough to really know! Choosing an outfit that looks good, but is also suitable for climbing rocks is actually quite difficult and I’m not sure I entirely succeeded with this one, especially considering the wind! However I had thick enough wool leggings on for decency to not really be an issue, and sturdy enough boots to tackle the terrain so who cares about anything else really?…..

So this is what I chose to wear on a little family day-trip scouting out possible photo-shoot locations for Oshun, and as well as a successful day doing that, it would be silly not to take advantage of a new location for my Weekly Wardrobe outfit post. The skirt came from Next in the January sale, and if you’d like to see a little video of it on, take a look at my sales clothing haul video where I style it with a pink ruffled jumper. I wasn’t sure I was going to keep it actually when I first picked it up off the rail because it’s a bit shorter than skirts I usually wear and I wondered if the style was a bit young for me. However, I am of an age wear comfort is a big priority when choosing clothes (sad, I know), and the wide elasticated waistband is quite appealing to me, so I went with it!

I’m glad I did actually, because Chris bought me these Timberland boots for me for Christmas, and I think calf-length boots; or any chunky style boots look better with short skirts rather than knee-length ones. They did get rather muddy that day though!

Transitional spring wardrobe
The navy blue cardigan was from H&M and is one of the softest cardigans I own. It’s a good length for this skirt, and also my more ‘fifties style flared skirts so it’s definitely getting its cost-per-wear value. As the sun dipped into the horizon of the sea and the warmth disappeared with it, I really needed a cardigan too! Cardigans are really underrated if you ask me! We were watching a Location Location Location the other day and Kirstie mentioned to the house-hunter who turned up in a vest that she should have brought a cardi. Both the kids looked at me and said, ‘You’d be such good friends.’ People talk about needing a ‘transition wardrobe’ at this time of year to take you from winter to spring, but all you really need is a good collection of cardigans!

You can just about see the lace of the long-sleeved thermal top poking out from underneath the cardigan. You can see it a bit better in this previous fashion blog post, but as the holes in it really make your bra show through, I rarely wear it as outer-wear. It was made in Somerset by a brand called Molly & Isla, but I can’t find any details online about the company.
