When I Grow Up

Styling a dusty rose velvet jacket

Styling a dusty rose velvet jacket

Jeanne d’arc Living magazine has its own range of gorgeous bohemian chic clothing. However there aren’t many places that stock it, and the prices are a little higher than I would usually pay, so every now and then I have a little look on ebay on the off-chance someone is selling an item second hand….

Nine times out of ten there’s nothing, but one evening when I was feeling a little low and looking for some online retail therapy; here was the very jacket that I have on my private ‘Clothes I will own one day’ Pinterest board; and even better yet, it was actually in my size! It’s in this beautiful dusty rose pink colour and I love it!

I love the covered buttons down the front with the loops for fastenings, and the velvet of this jacket is so soft. I’ve styled it with a grey tunic top underneath, which is by a Danish brand called NU. And the maroon jeggings are from Next. (As a side note – I wouldn’t recommend the jeggings – as you can see in the photos, they have gone baggy at the knees very quickly and they were constantly falling down!)

I find choosing footwear with jeggings quite difficult! Knee length boots over the top don’t look right on me; I think an ankle boot with a heel would have been better. I was away in America for these photos so unfortunately I didn’t have a big choice with me, so I opted for these trainer-style leather shoes by the Art Company. They have a really chunky sole, which I need for a bit of extra height as this outfit does have a shortening effect! And they are pretty cool! (See these posts where I also wear them: How to style Lagenlook clothing; Styling a simple blue dress; and How to rock the granny chic trend.

I love the design on the back – it gives the jacket a bit of a quirky bohemian feel.

The velvet jacket also makes a great layer in summer over pretty boho dresses; particularly if you have a smart event such as wedding, but prefer not to wear a blazer or structured jacket.

The pewter ivy leaf necklace was a Christmas present from Chris and was bought at Bath Christmas Market.

We were on our way back to Stamford after a weekend further North in Boston, and we stopped here at Gillette Castle State Park in Connecticut. It was a really strange gothic castle built in 1914 and it was so funny because 90% of the people there were doing a photo-shoot of some sort! If you’d like to see more, then I filmed it in my vlog for my YouTube channel.
