The Wind in the Willows

This is what I thought of this new telly production.

BBC1 New Year’s Day (and no doubt repeated a lot in the future)

Starring Matt Lucas, Mark Gatiss, Lee Ingleby, Bob Hoskins…

When I saw the clips for this I couldn’t help wondering if we need another version of Wind in the Willows. There’s currently 15 minutes left to go, and I am no longer wondering – the answer was no we don’t. There’s nothing original or exciting about this one, other than we see Matt Lucas in costume for a character not in Little Britain (though he has on occasion lapsed into a familiar accent).

I wasn’t interested enough to sit and watch the whole hour-and-a-half program; my 11 year-old has done (but then she’d happily gawp at adverts for that length of time before realising no program had started); and my 8 year-old is bored – currently nagging me to pull the last couple of crackers and bouncing a scooby doo on a tennis racquet.
