I was absolutely delighted to find a snow-drop flowering in my garden the other day. Snowdrops definitely rank in my top 5 favourite flowers. There was a garden I used to walk past on my way home from primary school, and it always had a blanket of snow-drops beneath a group of fir trees. They enchanted me. Once, I picked one and I felt guilty about it ever since! Here’s some snow-drop inspired handmade clothing and jewellery….
When we moved here, I spent the first 3 years trying to grow snow-drops. I planted 150 bulbs one year and 200 in the green the following year and another 100 the year after that (incase the first batch were a dud.) I got 10 flowers once; 5 the next year and none at all last year, and 1 this year! I’m not going to give up!
I have plans for the end of the garden and I’m going to try again in pots or a barrel or something.
To keep me inspired, I found some snow-drop related fashion.
I love this t-shirt by Limeyts. Check out her other printed designs too – There are lots of quirky and cute animal pictures as well as wildlife designs like this one.
I also found these snowdrop earrings by the wonderfully titled LadybirdAndLeaf. Each item of jewellery is carefully made in polymer clay and hand painted to look very life-like. Have a look at her butterflies and moths too.
Lastly, here’s a fairy snow-drop skirt made by me for Oshun. It took hours quilting all those tatters together!
The vintage snowdrop vest by Strangeways is for sale on OshunCostumes.
