Written and directed by Oliver Stone. Starring Colin Farrell, Angelina Jolie, Christopher Plummer; also with Val Kilmer, Brian Blessed.
This film dragged and dragged and in the end, it just wasn’t worth it. You couldn’t get a more dull portrayal of the story of Alexander the Great! Apart from the annoying fact that one minute it was going forward 8 years, then back again, then forward again, along with narration from Aristotle, it still seemed to miss out the important aspects of the film – like the actual reason for his drive and determination to conquer the world! For some reason, this was never fully explained and only hinted at towards the end as though it was meant to be the suspense throughout the film or something.
I was just disappointed. The best things about the film were the performances by Angelina Jolie who brought the film alive in her scenes; and I was surprised at how Colin Farrel fitted the main part. He was a better actor than I expected and just as well or I really wouldn’t have bothered watching to the end.
