Shown on BBC1, Fridays 9pm. Written and directed by Ben Elton. Starring Ardel O’Hanion (Father Ted) and Mel Giedroyc (as in ‘Mel and Sue’)
This is actually a hilarious comedy from Ben Elton. Some might think that a program about a couple coping with two young children has already been done before; and it probably has, but not properly like this one. Have you ever actually seen a mother carrying a bit of post-pregnancy weight, and with wet patches on her top from leaky nipples? Somehow this series actually manages to be original by dealing with the actual genuine issues that parents have to deal with; like the stress caused when your toddler loses his special teddy/blanket etc.
The only thing that lets it down is the character called Ronnie whose part is seriously overracted and the word ‘tasteful’ is said far too much.
If you haven’t caught this sitcom yet, watch it this Friday as, if you’ve had children, I’m sure you’ll love it. If you haven’t, I expect you’ll be too smug to bother trying to relate to the main characters!
