Last week was the start of the new series of Waking The Dead and I was pleased to see its return as there really isn’t a lot that I like on telly! It’s on its fifth series now, and I only caught it’s fourth for the first time; so if you don’t know what it’s about: a group of cold case police investigators work on reopening and solving crimes.
The new female character wasn’t brought in with a large role straight away in the first episodes, and they dealt with the difficulty of working without Mel (who used to be played by Claire Goose) pretty well, without over-doing it.
I enjoyed watching the first 2 episodes but I think they were being a bit too ambitious with the complicated plot in that story. There were moments where I was getting side-tracked with a magazine on my lap instead of getting drawn into the drama on the telly. I’m hoping this was just an attempt at an interesting story to get people watching this series, and that tonight’s episode will be more of a straightforward who-dunnit muder!
I’ll be watching it again, but I’ll have a magazine ready just in case.

After watching last night’s and tonight’s episodes, my suspicions are confirmed and these two were far better than last weeks and no magazines were needed!
I was wrong about the character who I thought was staying last week, and actually Mel’s replacement, Stella, appeared on Sunday and was part of the story today. She’s likeable, and I think she’ll be good. I’m looking forward to her story being revealed as there were hints that there’s something more to her than it seems at first.
Like I said, the story was great this week and I really enjoyed watching it. As usual, however, they seem to suddenly run out of time and don’t bother to finish some of the smaller things going on. The dodgy copper who shot the other dodgy guy wasn’t seen getting arrested, and there were loose ends needing tying and it was just an annoying ending. Other than that though, I have no complaints and I’ll be setting my Sky+ on Series Link to record them all so I don’t miss any.
