Today the builders ascend on our house to knock down the kitchen and the dining room walls, and the staircase we don’t need. The beginnings of our new kitchen has begun!
We dithered and dithered about getting a loan in order for us to do this, and in the end we decided to go for it. We thought we could spend 5 years saving for the kitchen, and getting it then; or getting the kitchen now and enjoying it for the five years we pay off the loan! What swung it for me was the fact that you always see people on Grand Designs using credit cards to pay for the kitchen when their build money has run out. Other people do it, so why shouldn’t we?
So anyway, I’ve taken a few ‘Before’ pictures and I’ll update when there is more to see. Apparently it’s going to take them two days just to prop up the ceilings. I’ve been really busy over the last few days clearing out the kitchen and the dining room, and also getting my eldest daughter to tidy up her bedroom. Her wall is coming down with it, so she’ll end up with a bigger room as she’ll get the extra space where the stairs were. And for now she’s sleeping on a fold-out futon the in tiny narrow room surrounded with boxes for my clothing business. She said this morning she felt like Harry Potter, waking up in the cupboard under the stairs!
