A Witchy dress for beyond Halloween

a dress for beyond halloween

If you were to imagine what a witch might wear when she’s off-duty but still wants to identify as a witch, then this dress would be perfect! I didn’t buy it with Halloween in mind, but pair it with a pointy hat and you’ve got yourself a costume! Knowing I would be in America for Halloween this year, this is the dress I packed and wore on the day, but I wore it other times as well….

The photos for this blog post were actually taken a year ago in the wonderful Autumn gardens at Stourhead in Wiltshire. I’m always catching up on photo shoots, but this dress is still available from Amazon:

The dress is by a brand called Anself and is made from two layers of cotton, the underneath layer falling slightly lower and dropping at the back. I love simple touches like this on a dress; it just makes the design a bit more quirky than your average fashions!

The loose floaty style of this dress is lovely and ethereal, but I have to admit, it probably isn’t the most flattering in the world. It hides everything though, so when I’m having a tummy self-conscious day, this is the perfect item of clothing! I like it a lot and actually bought the same dress in red, which I wore to Stonehenge on Summer Solstice.

Do I even need to mention the fact that I’m wearing my Timberland boots with the dress? (If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ll know I wear these boots with everything throughout autumn / winter!)

Styling a plain black dress

I accessorised the outfit with a subtle flower crown for pagan nature-spirit vibes. The look was perfect for frolicking though the autumn trees, and maybe I was giving off the right aura because a robin flew down and came closer to me than one ever has done before. I’m sure it considered hopping onto my hand. It stayed nearby for ages and was quite distracting when we were trying to take outfit photos!

Here are some other outfits from Asos you could buy now and style as every-day wear, but would also work well when Halloween rolls around next year:

Ps. If anyone has that moon and stars dress that Marks and Spencer sold out of last year in a size 16 or 18 and wants to sell it, please get in touch!
