The Snow Queen

a BBC television film of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale

We recorded this as we knew there was no way we we’d be watching the telly on Christmas Day morning; and to be honest, I really shouldn’t have bothered! I feel guilty in saying it, because I can imagine how long and hard the makers of this worked, but the actualy film didn’t match how exciting the trailers on telly made it look.

It wasn’t that it was bad. It was actually good, but so incredibly boring! Even the most cultured of upper class children would not have been amused by it! As an exercise in layering cumputer generated images with real actors, it was a success; although the effect took a little getting used to; I would have got used to it had it interested me. It was basically classical music, with the odd song telling us what was going on, and the occasional snippit of dialogue which was even dubbed over by Juliet Stevenson and Patrick Stewar instead of having the voices of the real children who had the struggle of acting almost entirely with a green screen behind them. I was looking forward to watching this, but I’m afraid to say I found it dull and uninteresting.

Looking for the perfect base – Review of Boots No 7 day cream; Rimmel mattifying primer & Bare Minerals matt powder foundation
October 12, 2017
I’m sure I could be psycho-analysed about this; but I cannot run out of something unless I’ve already bought the thing I’m going to use next – even if I know that’s not for some time! During our recent trip to America, I planned on buying a few products that I regularly use so that I have them all set to go when I ‘hit pan’ on my current ones! The first of these is the No7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream. I stood in my local Boots a couple of months ago and couldn’t bring myself to spend £25 on the next one, so I thought I’d wait until I could get it slightly cheaper across the pond. The second item was Maybelline mineral powder foundation, but as they didn’t have that any more, I was tempted into buying the Bare Minerals matte powder foundation instead. The primer was an impulse purchase as I was drawn in by the ‘mattifying’ bit on the label. Yes, there is a theme here. And yes, if a matte moisturising day cream existed, I would buy that too!….
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them review (no spoilers)
November 20, 2016
This is just a quick extra post because I went to watch this film last night and thought it was absolutely fantastic! As Harry Potter fans, we were very excited in this household and the kids and I dressed up for the occasion in 1920’s style outfits! We ate a meal first at the Frankie & Benny’s opposite the Cineworld cinema in Yeovil (which, by the way is hugely improved from last time we went there – I think they’ve employed new kitchen staff) and sneaked pudding, in the form of chocolate buttons, in my bag into Screen eight!….
