It’s always fascinating seeing animals you normally only ever see in zoos, actually in the wild. So we went looking for elephant seals on the Californian coast…
Once again I followed the advice of The Rough Guide to California, and once again I shouldn’t have. We were travelling south to north, and I’ve been through the book over and over trying to find the names of the places, but can’t. I’m sure one of them was Cambria though. Both were pleasant places to stop if you have the time, but there were no signs of seals. Keep going until there is a signpost saying Elephant Seal Rookery. There’s a large car park and viewing area and the elephant seals are everywhere! Unfortunately it was dusk when we arrived, so my photos aren’t great, but at least we did finally see them. It’s definitely worth a stop on your journey.
