Super hero costumes

supermantutuSuper heroes are bound to be a common sight at Halloween this year. I loved kick-ass and can’t wait to see the sequel. I also thoroughly enjoyed Batman a few years ago, but apart from that, I can’t say I’m a big fan of super hero comics or films. Never-the-less, they make a perfect costume opportunity, and so I’ve gathered a few of my favourites from the hand-made community of Etsy….

This little Superman tutu is just too cute! Made by TutullyCuteDesigns.

And I love the Batman logo on this cute skirt by RoobyLane.

And I admit it. I never knew who Lulu in Final Fantasy was, until I came across this luxury costume by Pinkpurr, which is my lulufavourite by far. It’s quite steam-punky actually!

Weekly Wardrobe – Christmas Party
January 9, 2017
I’m back with my regular Weekly Wardrobe feature, in the outfit I wore for our village Writers’ Group Christmas party. It was far too late in the day for photos outside, so we rigged up this handmade background (more on that another day) and a studio flash set-up. It was a pretty muddy day, so I only have socks on as I wore wellies to walk to and back from the party, and just had socks on while I was there as I knew it would just be sitting round a table and no-one would see my feet anyway! I couldn’t think of any stand-in party shoes at the last minute, so here I am, authentically in my socks!
Weekly Wardrobe – Tweed steampunk

We were invited to visit the home of the Gibbs family at Tyntesfield Manor in the year 1891. (It was a National Trust event.) Of course, we took the opportunity to go for a theme with our outfits that day! I didn’t have much in the way of late Victorian clothing, so I decided to go for a bit of a steampunk look instead. It was an early start to ensure we could get tickets into the house, so in the hour we had to wait our turn, it was the perfect opportunity to wonder the grounds and take photos….

The summer evening jacket. A handmade pixie hem hippy-style coat
May 9, 2018
I have to admit, although we recently took the photos for this jacket; spring is actually a very difficult season to wear it due to its lack of waterproof-ness and the inclination in England for it to suddenly rain two minutes after the sun is blazing! So that’s why I entitled this as being ideal for summer evenings. It would also be great festival fashion as the pixie hem and unusual woven fabric gives it quite hippy vibes, whilst also being warm when the sun goes down, and perfect for sitting with friends around the bonfire after a night of dancing….

A boho dress for a boho lifestyle

I am often at my happiest when Chris, (and in the past when they were smaller, the kids as well) and I go off on a road-trip in the camper. We’ve had a few vans over the years, changing the size of them to suit our family, and now that Rain and Jude have had enough of the cramped sleeping conditions and the dog snoring in their ears, we downsized to a Type 25 VW camper van a couple of years ago for just the two of us. When I’m gathering the clothes to take with me on these trips, I tend to choose the more bohemian items from my wardrobe.  Apart from at Wilderness festival, can you think of a more fitting time to wear clothes like this dress? With its flowing fabric and button-up style, this maxi dress has a gorgeous print inspired by far-flung lands and evokes a feeling of summer travels….
