Threads of a Fairytale

Just a quick post to let you know about my new website. Threads of a fairytale is my clothing label for fairytale, steampunk and bohemian handmade creations. Please take a look and let me know what you think! (Edited. Threads of a Fairytale was formally called Oshun.)

The Vintage Bazaar at the Cheese & Grain in Frome, Somerset

This was a couple of weeks ago now, but what with Easter and bank holidays, time seems to be passing double quick. So anyway, my daughter and her friend were interested and off we went on a sunny Saturday morning to Frome. (Quick car park tip: there was a queue to get in because no-one realised there were several spaces to the right on the exit road. We nipped in on the right (there weren’t one way signs) and got a space straight away!) The entrance cost was £2 each, but the hall was big enough to justify this I suppose, and it was very busy, so people obviously didn’t mind paying the fee.

You can’t trust March

This is a mini story I wrote in half an hour at Writers’ group last week. We were given the topic: ‘You can’t trust March’ and it had to be written in dialogue. ‘Oh I wouldn’t do that if I were you.’ ‘What?’ ‘That – planting out those begonias.’ ‘Why not?’ ‘It’s far too soon.’ ‘Too soon? It’s lovely and warm. I’m in a t-shirt.’ ‘But you could have your coat on tomorrow. You can’t trust March.’

Snowdrop Inspiration

I was absolutely delighted to find a snow-drop flowering in my garden the other day. Snowdrops definitely rank in my top 5 favourite flowers. There was a garden I used to walk past on my way home from primary school, and it always had a blanket of snow-drops beneath a group of fir trees. They enchanted me. Once, I picked one and I felt guilty about it ever since! Here’s some snow-drop inspired handmade clothing and jewellery….

Well, we think we have solved the chimney problem. We were doing well with sweeping it ourselves, but unfortunately, the brush snapped off the end of the stick part way up and we couldn’t get it down again. In the end we decided to light the Rayburn anyway and let the bristles melt. So at the moment, the Rayburn is going really well, but part of a sweep brush is still stuck up there! We’re warmer inside than we’ve been all winter, but the wind outside is icy cold. I’ve been looking around Etsy for some snuggly winter coats to keep warm in on those crisp walks in the countryside…
