I still haven’t worked out what to do when I grow up! I’m mainly a writer, an artist, and a fairytale dressmaker with various crafty hobbies! Here (and on YouTube) I share bits of my life, thoughts, and what I’m learning along the way. Let’s find magic and inspiration; join me for this creative living adventure!

Weekly Wardrobe – Summer Dresses (Glastonbury Festival edition!)
June 30, 2016
The day of the week for these posts have been a little random lately – sorry about that! Glastonbury Festival just messes with my schedule, and I’m not sure it will get much better as I’m quite busy over the next few weeks. However, I’m going to do my best to get these back on track and uploaded on Mondays. The misty drizzle that’s more-or-less settled itself over Pilton was not ideal for NotDressedAsLamb‘s theme of summer dresses this week. I did manage to wear a couple though, but with a cardigan over the top!
Weekly Wardrobe – A pop of colour
June 23, 2016
This week’s theme at NotDressedAsLamb for #IwillWearWhatILike was a little easier for me to follow, as I do have a few items of brightly coloured clothing, though when it came to looking at my wardrobe(s), not as many as I thought. Last week was pretty uneventful for me, as I’ve still been sewing away at the Bottle Bags and Cup Carriers for Glastonbury Festival – it was quite a relief when I handed them all in a couple of days ago. So the clothing I’ve included in this post is not for any particular occasion….
Weekly Wardrobe
June 12, 2016
With a rare forecast of three days in a row without rain, I decided to set myself up with my sewing machine outside, where I can look up and see Glastonbury Festival being put together in the fields nearby. In a couple of weeks time, the cup carriers and bottle bags I’m making will be for sale there at Water Aid stalls. Anyway, my outfits this week were mainly based around comfort! The link-up with NotDressedAsLamb involved tote bags this week. Well, the only time I actually went out and needed a bag, was to choir, as I needed something that day to carry my folder of music….
Weekly Wardrobe – pastels
June 5, 2016
Hello folks! Hope you’re having a lovely weekend. I’m starting a new regular thingumajig on here, which, as you can see, I’m calling ‘Weekly Wardrobe.’ In view of style and fashion being a frequent theme to my posts, I thought Why not share what I’m wearing? I was unsure at first, feeling it’s a little, well, self-important of me to think people will be interested, but let’s face it, in this day in age when tonnes of people are sharing their outfits on the internet, I think I’d like to join in! My fashion taste is a little random; sometimes hippy, ’50s, steampunk or lagenlook, but I like to think a little bit quirky. I’m a hoarder and rarely buy items brand new, so I’m afraid I’m not much good for ideas for you to exactly copy, but maybe offer style inspiration. I’m also going to be linking up with the fabulous Catherine Summers at NotDressedAsLamb and following her weekly themes for #iwillwearwhatIlike in rallying against the list some questionable journalist thinks people over thirty should stop wearing….
Oshun
Oshun – the story of my clothing brand, and the yellow dress inspired by Beyonce’s in Lemonade
May 13, 2016
I still have the notebook in which I brain-stormed possible names for my clothing business sixteen years ago! I was particularly interested in goddesses at that time and wrote several down, but the name Oshun resonated. When I found out more about her, she seemed perfect to name my brand after. She is a water goddess of love; a deity of the Yoruba people of West Africa and is associated with femininity, sensuality and the power of women. She has come into the news lately because there are rumours that Beyonce wore a dress in Lemonade which specifically represented her….
Sustainable Fashion – a talk with Livia Firth
April 23, 2016
If money weren’t an issue, I would have been up and down to Bath all through its Fashion Week, and despite entering every competition I could find, I did not win any tickets to the fashion shows. I did however buy a ticket to see this event with Livia Firth in conversation with fashion writer, Avril Groom. As you probably know, I make and sell clothes by recycling/repurposing/reclaiming/upcycling (insert favourite buzz-word here) unwanted fabrics with my clothing label Oshun, so sustainable fashion is something I am very interested in….
A visit to Bristol and BIMM
April 4, 2016
The other week it was an open day at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) in Bristol. Our youngest daughter, Jude is thinking about taking a music management degree there soon, so we went along to see what it was like. We left so early in the morning and the traffic was surprisingly good for a Saturday, we actually arrived in Bristol with an hour to spare. All was fine, and we killed time browsing a few shops, but somehow we ended up walking the wrong way up the road, had to backtrack and ended up getting there ten minutes late!…
Guy Fawkes Night attire
October 22, 2014
I’m not sure my American readers will know who Guy Fawkes was, so just in case, here’s a little history lesson: Some guy called Guy Fawkes wanted a Catholic king, so on November 5th 1605  he attempted to blow up the House of Lords. He was caught, tortured and died for his trouble, and for some unknown reason, we celebrate this failed attempt at rebellion. We Brits love a tryer I suppose. So every year we have bonfires and fireworks displays and pretend it’s warm enough for a barbecue in the dark – usually run by the local Scout group…
