A visit to Bristol and BIMM
April 4, 2016
The other week it was an open day at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) in Bristol. Our youngest daughter, Jude is thinking about taking a music management degree there soon, so we went along to see what it was like. We left so early in the morning and the traffic was surprisingly good for a Saturday, we actually arrived in Bristol with an hour to spare. All was fine, and we killed time browsing a few shops, but somehow we ended up walking the wrong way up the road, had to backtrack and ended up getting there ten minutes late!…
Butlins, Minehead
March 16, 2016
I’ve just been looking through my saved drafts of blog posts, and came across this one that I wrote four years ago! I think it’s worth publishing because the tips will still be useful, but the prices will be out of date now. My friend Traci and I took our village Youth Club kids to Butlins in Minehead, Somerset for the day… Well, first I have to say I was pretty impressed with the place. There was a friendly atmosphere and it was spotlessly clean. It was also well laid out and difficult to get lost in, which is useful when you’ve got 10 kids to keep an eye on….
Vintage Fair, Wells + tips for vintage clothing sellers
March 4, 2016
Conveniently situated right next to a car park, so you can carry your vintage haul easily back to the car before looking round the shops in Wells High Street! It’s a small vintage fair organised by Vintage Somerset (A great website by the way, full of vintage shopping info), and takes place in Seager Hall on Union Street. My daughters and I visited on Saturday, but I think it’s on at other times in the year too. It’s a cute little fair – to be honest, too small for my liking. I do like to go to a vintage fair knowing I’ll definitely come away with something, but with only about twelve stalls, your chances are fairly limited with this one. And I wasn’t impressed with the £1 entrance fee, given the size….
Sherlock location, Tyntesfield Manor + Happy New Year!
January 4, 2016
Happy New Year folks! I hope it’s an amazing one for you. We celebrated at home with the fireworks on the telly and it was a lovely night. (A little disappointed that the big house down the road didn’t do their usual display that we watch from our garden, but oh well!) Despite the crappy weather, we wanted to go somewhere on the last weekend of the holidays, so we decided to go to the National Trust property and filming location of the recent Sherlock special, Tyntesfield Manor…
Birmingham NEC, MCM Comic Con
March 26, 2015
It was a bit of a drive for us, but the kids have wanted to go to a comic con for a while, so it was worth it for them. Never having been before, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but costume planning was rife in our household and I went as Tauriel from The Hobbit films; Rain went as Hay Lin from W.I.T.C.H. and Jude went as Harley Quinn from Batman. (Chris won’t dress up, but did at least wear a Star Wars t-shirt.) And we did look pretty good even if I do say so myself!
