Weekly Wardrobe – floppy hat & maxi skirt
January 30, 2017
Hello everyone! There’s one good thing about all this crappy weather: it’s great for portrait photography! The misty dreary drizzle diffuses the light beautifully and makes me look amazing (even if I do say so myself) haha! Seriously though, if you’d like a nice outdoor photo of yourself, now’s the time to do it. I love it when you remember something in your wardrobe that you’ve forgotten about for a while. I can’t believe I haven’t worn this floppy hat all winter, but I thought it would go perfectly with the rest of the outfit and also add some much needed colour…..
Weekly Wardrobe – Tweed steampunk
January 16, 2017
We were invited to visit the home of the Gibbs family at Tyntesfield Manor in the year 1891. (It was a National Trust event.) Of course, we took the opportunity to go for a theme with our outfits that day! I didn’t have much in the way of late Victorian clothing, so I decided to go for a bit of a steampunk look instead. It was an early start to ensure we could get tickets into the house, so in the hour we had to wait our turn, it was the perfect opportunity to wonder the grounds and take photos….
Weekly Wardrobe – Christmas Party
January 9, 2017
I’m back with my regular Weekly Wardrobe feature, in the outfit I wore for our village Writers’ Group Christmas party. It was far too late in the day for photos outside, so we rigged up this handmade background (more on that another day) and a studio flash set-up. It was a pretty muddy day, so I only have socks on as I wore wellies to walk to and back from the party, and just had socks on while I was there as I knew it would just be sitting round a table and no-one would see my feet anyway! I couldn’t think of any stand-in party shoes at the last minute, so here I am, authentically in my socks!
Weekly Wardrobe – Christmas Concert
December 12, 2016
This week I was part of our Village Voices Christmas Concert – the event of the year for our community choir! Our dress code was black bottoms and a brightly coloured top. The black bottom half was easy – I had several options, but not so many bright tops to choose from in my wardrobe; particularly smart ones. Then I remembered a jacket I have that just screams Christmas; so I went with that! I didn’t leave myself enough time to be photographed on the actual evening of the concert, so I re-created the look yesterday by the Bishop’s Palace in Wells.
Weekly Wardrobe – Dressing for out in the cold!
December 5, 2016
On Saturday I went to watch the Reindeer parade through Wells High Street, and it was just as cold as I thought it would be! The sun was shining though, so it was a really nice day for it and so many people turned out to watch. There was also carol singing and market stalls, and mistletoe for sale, and lovely Christmassy things like that – if you’d like to see it, please look at my Vlogmas Day 4 video on You Tube! Anyway, my outfit was based around the fact that I can’t seem to wear my red coat with my hat, without the hat sliding up to the top of my head and looking ridiculous. Does this happen to anyone else? So, as the icy wind meant that a hat was essential for me, I decided to wear my shawl instead…..
Weekly Wardrobe – a vintage velvet dress
November 28, 2016
It was the wonderful Glastonbury Frost Fayre on Saturday so I wanted to wear something a little bit Christmassy. A purple velvet dress fitted the bill, so that’s what I went with! I bought it from ebay a few years ago when I was invited to a friend’s 1940s party, and I thought this one looked like it matched the theme. The collar, length and style are very 1940’s, but it’s from C&A’s so it’s probably actually from the 1980s….
1950’s style dresses haul & try-on
November 27, 2016
I recently had that crisis moment when I looked into my room full of clothes and realised I had absolutely nothing to wear! I was looking for an outfit to wear to Blogfest and I had specific criteria: something that I’m going to be comfortable in all day; something that I definitely don’t look pregnant in (this was a Mumsnet event) ie. something flattering and I felt good in, and something that I felt suited my personality and style. 1950’s style dresses are something that answers these requirements, so I went on the internet and in a panic, ordered five! Three are going back, but I’m keeping two. Here’s the video I made, showing them and trying them on, so if you like this sort of style too, then hopefully it will be helpful.
